Winner of the ‘Partnership Working’ award from the Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards 2017
To raise awareness of FGM in the UK, we worked with NSPCC and BAWSO to develop the Voices Over Silence campaign. With over 1,700 victims of FGM being referred to specialist clinics in the last two years and as many as 23,000 girls under 15, being at risk of FGM in England and Wales, the NSPCC and BAWSO came together to bring an end to FGM. They needed a campaign that would raise awareness of the issue and educate people to help make a change.
We worked with a group of young women at potential risk of FGM, in order to create a toolkit to educate and inform others in their communities that FGM is child abuse. Voices Over Silence is a multimedia toolkit led firmly by the young people with us as ‘creative facilitators’, which resulted in an award-winning campaign being borne.
We worked with Bawso, NSPCCcymru and Welsh Government to create a toolkit for raising awareness.
The project consisted of working with a young people’s steering group who were the driving force for the message they wanted to convey. We worked to help guide the design and video process and ensuring that their vision was achieved.
A series of content making sessions, including photography, video and audio were carried out to capture the messaging and to put young people at the heart of this campaign.
